1. PROJECT

The emergency sleep-in of the association La Caravane Sans Frontières was set up with the support of the Protestant Church of Geneva, which is making its Servette-Vieusseux temple available.

The aim is to offer a place to sleep to homeless people, identified as being in a very precarious situation. This facility can be a first step towards redirecting beneficiaries to other accommodation after an assessment of their health and social situation and their ability to integrate into other structures.

In the current context of health, but also economic and societal crisis, such a structure, which offers, in addition to a hot meal and a bed, the necessary human warmth and listening, makes sense to welcome and redirect the most destitute people, but also to relieve the social institutions which are currently under heavy pressure.

2. OBJECTIVES DU PROJECT

  • The primary objective of this mission is to keep this emergency shelter open until the end of the winter period.
  • To offer respite to vulnerable people, often in psychological distress, in a safe and warm place.
  • To put the beneficiaries in touch with the appropriate social institutions.
  • Pre-identify people who meet the criteria for reception in the city’s current system.
  • To collect material and redistribute it to particularly destitute people who come to the sleep-in, whether they are passing through or sleeping there, so that they can cope with the conditions outside.

3. HAAS FOUNDATION

Provided financial support to keep the shelter open until the 23rd of April 2021. The Foundation’s team also provided food and warm clothing for people who cannot be accommodated in the sleep-in.
