1. BACKGROUND

Pierre & Andrée Haas Foundation wished to support the staff and residents of health-care Institutions in the canton of Geneva by offering them chocolate subjects for Easter, specially prepared by craftsmen. This initiative was also intended to help the chocolate makers in a difficult period.

2. PROJECT OBJECTIVE

Given the difficult circumstances experienced by these residents and their families, particularly in the absence of visits, the goal of the project was to empower these people, forced to stay in isolation. In order to maximize the impact of the donation, the Foundation called upon the artisan bakers and pastry chefs of the Canton of Geneva to help them overcome the crisis.

3. STAFF AND RESIDENTS OF HEALTH-CARE INSTITUTIONS

The 53 establishments bring together more than 10’200 people, staff and residents. As these people were in total confinement, they were not able to receive their families or even to communicate with the outside world.

The Foundation delivered more than 10,200 Easter cards to 53 establishments.

4. CRAFTSMEN, BAKERS, CONFECTIONERS OF THE CANTON OF GENEVA

This initiative also enabled 20 artisan-confectioners to save some of their activities during the Easter weekend.

At a time when most shops and workshops were closed, the artisans found themselves with huge Easter stocks with little hope of selling them.

Their turnover has been divided by 4 compared to last year. The Foundation’s mission was to give them the opportunity to sell their stocks, to avoid as much waste as possible, but also to help them restart their activities.

All the items distributed weighed between 130 g and 150 g and had a unit value of CHF 15 / CHF 20.

In addition to this initiative and thanks to donations from Manor and Migros, the Foundation delivered more than 200 items to La Clairière, a detention site for minors in pre-trial detention, and to the refugee camp in the Vermont district.
